Jay Dugan would be so proud

03 Aug

The lesson learned tonight is I’ll probably do anything for women. See, I have this standing rule: I don’t do shots. Ever. Tonight, I broke it. Read on.

I went out with my friends Barbara and Ellary as a belated birthday celebration (it was 7/25). Barbara and I have been friends for years, and she’s been known to do a tequila shot now and then (ok, I’ve seen her do a LOT of them over the years). Any time she was doing them, I drank beer. That was the rule.
At some point tonight, the waitress was at our table and they mentioned it was my birthday. Later, the waitress came by and asked if she could buy me a shot for my birthday. I said “I don’t do shots.” She said “do you want a shot of beer?” As I’m mulling this over, Barbara says “he’d love a tequila shot.” Oh. I get it.
So, I say “fine, I’ll do a shot of tequila”, expecting to have it dropped off at the table so I can slide it over to Barbara.
Five minutes later, the waitress shows up with my tequila shot in hand, and a shot for herself. She says “wait a minute, my friends are coming over.” The next thing I know, two other waitresses are there, each with their own shot, and they’re urging me to do my shot with them. Dammit.
So, I did the shot. What else could I do?
Jay, I’m sorry you weren’t there to see it. My rule still stands for next happy hour: I don’t do shots. Ever.
