Sharks, part 2

Sharks swarming off Florida coast. Could this be sharks organizing against us, plotting our demise? We must destroy them! It kills me that they pull out a quote about the 79 deaths worldwide last year. How can such a small number be such big news? [Original post]

Grapenut and Jake

Well, there are 2 new members of my household ... Grapenut and Jake. There will be more pictures of them up shortly They're downloaded, I just have to assemble an album page.

We got them from the Animal Rescue League at a PetsMart in Lewisville. Their mom was a stray living under a porch, and the kittens were rescued just in time... the guy across the street from the house they were found at was going to feed the kittens to his pit bull. People are assholes. Anyway, for being strays fending for themselves, they're extremely affectionate and trusting. Between the adoption fees, security deposit for the apartment, and the supplies, they cost me well over $1000 this weekend, but they're worth every penny.

Grapenut is a blue-cream and white female, and Jake is a black & white male, both about 12 weeks old from the same litter. They're both already fixed. They're still semi-confined to the downstairs bathroom... if I'm sleeping or not home, that's where they have to be. But, I let them out to wander the house for a few hours tonight, and they're quite comfortable, so I'll let them wander freely pretty soon.

Jake gets his name from the growl he makes when he's playing with this furry little mouse I bought him. You should hear him! It reminds me of a truck's jake brake. He's so funny... you'd think the thing was real. Grapenut just keeps her distance and watches. She was harder to name ... she basically has this name, partly based on her coloring, and partly because it's off the wall, and that's the kind of guy I am.

Watch the photo gallery for pictures. They're cute little shits. Update: here is the page.
