The reception pictures are posted over on KyleAndLaura.com, which is the new site for anything “family-related”.
Jake
On December 13th, 2003, Jake died of heartworms. He was infected when we got him, and we had no idea. Most cats don’t live for 2 1/2 years with heartworms, so we consider ourselves very lucky to have had him for so long. He brought a tremendous amount of joy and love into our lives and we miss him very much. Rest in peace, buddy
VSLive, part 2
How you know you’re at a conference for geeks: Out of 1200 attendees, 1170 are men. Out of the 30 women, there are probably 7 that are attractive. One just walked past me, and her sweater is on inside out. Even the attractive women in this place can’t dress themselves.
VSLive, part 1
Ah, Florida. I forgot how much, um, fun it is to walk out of an air-conditioned building and have your glasses fog up so completely you’re forced to take them off. I’m here for a week-long
developer’s conference. This gives me a great opportunity for people watching.
Windows XP
I quit fighting Microsoft, and over the last few days, I have fully bought in to the new look and feel they’re pushing on us for Window XP. I finally started using the “My Documents”, “My Pictures” and “My Music” folders they create for you. And, I started using what was previously called “HTML View” for folders, and with XP is called “Common Tasks”.
Most Software Sucks
“The attitude today is that you can write any sloppy piece of code and the compiler will run diagnostics. If it doesn’t spit out an error message, it must be done correctly, right?” full article
Sharks, part 3
On April 12th, Erich Ritter, Chief Scientist of the International Shark Attack File, was bitten by a bull shark, off the coast of Walker’s Cay. He was bitten in the same exact spot where Laura and I snorkeled, as mentioned in
this entry. He’s still in the hospital. Get well soon, Erich.
Self-importance
What the hell is wrong with people? Why is everyone suddenly so much more important than everyone else? Ok, maybe “everyone” is too broad a statement… but you know what I mean. There are an awful lot of people out there–a growing number, it seems–that are obviously Really Very Important, which gives them the right to park at the curb instead of a parking space, drive on the shoulder past a huge line of cars, only to merge in later, closer to the source of a traffic blockage, ignore the “common feeder line” concept at cash registers, to get checked out first, stuff like that.
Sharks, part 2
Sharks swarming off Florida coast. Could this be sharks organizing against us, plotting our demise? We must destroy them! It kills me that they pull out a quote about the 79 deaths worldwide last year. How can such a small number be such big news? [Original post]
